Photo from Google Images NOT this accident.

Back on Sunday, March 20th (end of our Spring Break) our principal got into a terrible car crash. Around 2 AM, he lost control of his 1988 Wrangler and hit a utility pole. He was in critical condition and had to be airlifted to the trauma center. At the time, there was no confirmation alcohol was a factor.. Today they released the data...

According to a blood test done at the scene, his BAC was 0.211. Florida’s legal limit is a 0.08. He was nearly 3X the limit. This looks really bad being that he is a high school principal. He was out late the night before getting back to school, driving while intoxicated. He messed up.

But I think what bothers me most is that people are DEFENDING him! Comments on local sites say “We all make mistakes” and “don’t judge him”. I’m sorry, but if you are driving nearly 3x the legal limit, you don’t deserve a second chance. You very well knew you were drunk by that point. What if he died? What if he killed someone else? What he did was terribly dangerous and could’ve ended so much worse. I hope he does step down as principal. That’s inexcusable. The fact that the public is defending him really bothers me.

One thing that the internet has taught me is that there is always a white knight and there’s always a black knight. No matter what the situation someone will defend and and someone will condemn it.

I don’t care if he’s the pope, driving 3x over the legal limit is fucking dumb.

That’s one of my biggest things. Maybe if he was just over the legal limit it would be one thing. You are pretty damn drunk to be 3x the limit.

welp, if you haven’t figured it out yet, you soon will- adults can be just as stupid and full of shit as anyone. being older doesn’t automatically mean you make the right decisios.

.211 is putting in some work. I don’t know how grown adults go out knowing they are going to get FUCKED UP and think they are going to drive themselves. Defies all logic.

messing up is messing up, regardless of how well liked a guy is. when something is wrong, own up to it. guy deserves whatever they give him. nothing, NOTHING is as big of a deterrent as losing EVERYTHING you have for poor decisions. and this would be a perfect opportunity to get that message across you you and all the other kids in your school. it will be: “remember principal SoandSo, got drunk and had that accident on the way to school, totaled the Jeep he was driving, broke some bones, and had to go to jail, got his license revoked, got a ridiculous fine, his insurance rates shot through the roof, AND lost his job........... still miss seeing that Jeep”

examples like that leave LASTING impressions.

The honorable thing for him to do is step down, although I suspect it won't matter because he will very likely be fired anyways.

If anything, this speaks to the lack of pay in America’s education system. No principal should be forced to drive an old unsafe 1980's Wrangler due to shitty wages.

I have no problems with him. It’s the situation itself. I have a big problem with drunk drivers so I don’t want this to be treated special because of his status around town.

As an educator, he should be out.

I’m not saying people who get a DUI shouldn’t get a job/keep a job. But in a position like his this can’t happen.

Like you said if it was .09 that’s an OOPS maybe shouldn’t have had that 2nd tall beer at dinner. .21 is waaaaay above and beyond and there’s no error there.

When that happens it makes me think- how many times has he done this and pulled it off?

Years ago I started a shitstorm on a message board because I said I wasn’t sorry for a kid who died as a result of being drunk. Story went he killed himself and his female passenger. I said I felt for the girl, and both families, but I don’ tfeel for him. And I was labeled as a heartless bastard.

The way I look at it, I have zero compassion for someone who drives drunk, or does anything else that can put other lives at danger on the road. You know, maybe the Principal in this instance has a "problem". Okay, so what if he does. That still doesn't give him the right to drive drunk. Be thankful all he did was some damage to his Jeep and the tree, and no one else was involved in this accident.

The problem here is his profession. He is an educator. A role model for society and for the students at his school.

His actions are inexcusable in that context. While nobody should automatically receive a lighter or heavier legal punishment than other DUI offenders simply because of profession, most will agree that he is unfit for his job. Including OP’s local district education board.

Student Chan would not have been too hot about Principal Buzzed.

With you on this one, he should step down now and make it easier for your school to find a timely replacement. I also do not have much sympathy for drunk drivers.

I don’t see anything particularly hateful about his description of the incident. Driving shitfaced is incredibly dumb and selfish no matter what.

It’s almost a sure thing that he’ll “resign”- stuff like this hits the nebulous “professional standards” clauses of pretty much every school district.

A high school principal should be held to a higher standard than others. Doesn’t matter, they need to lead by example. Fuck this guy, and other drunk drivers as well.

It’s fortunate that he didn’t hurt anybody else, and also that the students will learn a valuable lesson when he gets properly fucked. Plus, hopefully they get a principal that isn’t as stupid for a replacement.

I’ll preach my gospel from here until the end of time - live near a bar if you like to drink. As in, be able to walk. I love beer. I don’t get drunk to the point where I stumble or anything like that, but I definitely pass the legal limit. So I walk to my bars of choice. Never need to drive. Problem solved AND ITS FUCKING EASY YOU IGNORANT DRUNK DRIVING BASTARDS.

I agree with your take - no mercy. You could’ve stopped at one. You could’ve slept it off. ou could’ve done any number of things. Nope! Hammered driving! You lose, go to jail, do not pass go, do not get your job back, have a nice day.

Especially when you are a teacher, or principle of a school, you are supposed to be a role model for the teenage kids you are put in charge of even when you are off the clock.

Unless he was trying to intentionally set a negative example, like “ See kids this is what happened when you drink an drive.
